Upcoming Dates | Past Ghostlight Forums
When there is no performance, we say the theatre is "dark." It is tradition to put a single light bulb on a tall stand in the middle of the stage to "keep the ghosts away," and to prevent a lost actor from falling into the orchestra pit. From conception to casting, the Rep’s free Ghostlight Forums offer a rare glimpse into the building of a Rep production.
Join Artistic Director Rick Lombardo and other Rep artists onstage with community leaders and experts in the fields of issues related to the plays.
These lively and thought-provoking discussions are always entertaining, often full of surprises and FREE! Call the Box Office at 408.367.7255 or email boxoffice@sjrep.com to RSVP.

Groundswell
Monday, September 21, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
What happens when a nation that hungers for change, finds that, amidst the political sea change, a legacy of division remains and stirs a groundswell of anger that permeates everyday interactions? These are the questions tackled by playwright Ian Bruce in his stirring piece set in post-apartheid South Africa.
In our Ghostlight Forum, Artistic Director Rick Lombardo is joined by a panel of guests, including Director Kirsten Brandt and Santa Clara University Law Professor Kathryn Ross who, in 1992, interned in South Africa with the African National Congress Constitution Committee to help formulate a Constitution for a democratic South Africa.
Our panel will address issues of social justice, their historical context, how they are handled in the play, and their resonance in our own community. It's a discussion you won't want to miss! Join the community conversation.
A Christmas Story
Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
Join us for Christmas in November! Artistic Director Rick Lombardo will be joined by Chris Smith, the director of A Christmas Story, Dan Hiatt, who will be playing adult Ralphie and John Herschbach, the President of Christmas in the Park. Let's gather together for a festive discussion of holiday traditions and customs, the importance of family and how the way we think and talk about the past determines what traditions we embrace.
The Weir
Monday, January 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Join us for our Ghostlight Forum for The Weir as we explore the Irish rural countryside and the traditions of pub life and culture. It truly will be a Ghost-light Forum as Rick Lombardo and guests also discuss spirits -- both supernatural and liquid varieties.
Guests to include the Rep's own Irishman, James P. Reber, among others. For those who don't know, James P. Reber is the Founder of San Jose Rep. He also happens to proudly be of Irish heritage and will be sharing stories of his recent visit to Ireland.
