First Time to the Rep?: Frequently Asked Questions

Where do Rep shows come from?

San Jose Rep is the city’s flagship professional theatre company operating on a full-time basis year-round. Generally we produce our own shows. Most of our sets, props and costumes are built right here in San Jose and each of our productions is prepared and rehearsed in San Jose, specifically for San Jose. Occasionally, we send our productions on to other companies, and at times, we work in co-production with other leading regional theatre companies.

Do I have to dress up?

At the Rep we welcome everyone. We want our audiences to feel comfortable. There was a time when people thought they had to dress up for the theatre—and there’s still no harm in that—but nowadays you’ll find audience members in everything from jeans to gowns. Dress up, dress down. Express your individuality. And if you're still unsure, just give us a call or email us at info@sjrep.com and we'd be happy to help you out.

How can I learn more about Rep productions?

In addition to the reading materials and resources listed in our education section (LINK) San Jose Rep also hosts two adult education events: Ghostlight Forums and Post-Show Discussions.

How early should I arrive?

Always allow enough time to navigate traffic, find parking and take your seats well before show time. It’s difficult to seat latecomers without disturbing other patrons. So, please arrive 20-30 minutes before show time to ensure a relaxed night at the theatre for all.

What if I'm running late?

Out of respect for other patrons, latecomers will not be seated until intermission or until a designated late seating break in the show. Also, it may not be possible to seat late arrivals in their actual ticketed location until intermission.
