Artistic Collaborators

MATTHEW BARBER (Playwright) is a native of Los Angeles. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in English and worked in the San Francisco area doing publicity and marketing for a number of theatres. He also wrote as the Arts Editor for the San Francisco Independent before returning to Los Angeles. Enchanted April is Mr. Barber’s first play.

JOHN MCCLUGGAGE (Director) has been with the Rep since 1989 and currently serves as the Associate Artistic Director. He initiated and implemented the Rep’s unique Red Ladder Theatre Company in 1992, which has grown into an award winning, nationally recognized community outreach program that is a model of its kind. At the Rep he has directed over twenty shows including Rounding Third, Humpty Dumpty, A Flea in Her Ear, Old Wicked Songs, Communicating Doors and Over the Tavern, as well as off-Broadway productions such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Owing to his ground-breaking outreach work, McCluggage has been selected to serve as a member of Arts Professionals in Youth and Community Development, a national steering committee sponsored by the Packard Foundation and led by Shirley Brice Heath to explore the need for educational opportunities and training for future youth leaders as well as the development of arts in education programs nationwide. Mr. McCluggage was selected to participate as one of fourteen United States youth program experts in the US/UK Exploratory Learning Partnership to help cultivate international partnerships and collaborations with youth development leaders from the United Kingdom. Mr. McCluggage was named a semi-finalist for the Ford Foundation’s Leadership for a Changing World award.
