New Artistic Director Rick Lombardo brings an exciting, provocative and new vision for theatre in Silicon Valley. Throughout his career, Rick has been able to take the pulse of a community and produce theatre that asks the big questions that matter to that community. Lombardo’s vision for San Jose Rep is to produce theatre that is uniquely Silicon Valley, theatre connected to the lives we lead. Theatre that considers questions important to us now and theatre that touches us intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.

“I believe that we respond to theatre that has real value in our lives, that explores our shared hopes and fears ... timeless stories that are passionately and thoughtfully bound together by the power of finding meaning and connection in our lives."

This belief led Rick to produce a reimagined production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It for his directorial debut at San Jose Rep. While being true and precise with Shakespeare’s language, Rick staged the play in idioms that touch our lives now: the wrestling match staged like an Ultimate Fighting Challenge, complete with live video feed; the world of the court as an urban environment; and cutting edge projected scenic effects all help us connect – now – with the timeless themes of this beautiful work.

In support of this vision, San Jose Rep has embarked on a new fundraising campaign called “MillionOne” with the expressed goal of raising one million dollars this year to support our vision for the future and secure financial stability. It is a powerful vision San Jose Rep is already implementing but to fully realize this vision, and insure stability, we need your help.
