Let’s set the scene. You, your friends, and a couple dozen other fabulous young professionals meet up at one of downtown San Jose’s hotspots for drinks and catered gourmet eats. You mingle, network, or just unwind, then head over to see world-class theatre at San Jose Rep. You'll enjoy shows that will make you laugh, make you cry, make you think and yes, perhaps even shock your sensibilities. Afterwards, you head to a swank bar and trade opinions, become an instant critic and, who knows, perhaps have a stimulating chat with that ever-so-interesting “Scenester” you locked eyes with across the aisle! What is The Scene?

The Scene is a dynamic social group of young professionals in the Bay Area who enjoy exploring theatre. Members of The Scene are treated to a fully-planned all-inclusive evening of superb entertainment, good food and great fun. Your evening will begin with refreshments and gourmet eats at a local hotspot, then it’s onto world-class theatre at San Jose Rep. Afterwards, you’ll gather at a swank lounge to relax, mingle or join in lively conversation about the production. In addition to giving you a chance to socialize with new and old friends, The Scene’s social events often include an opportunity to rub shoulders and interact with the cast, producers, playwrights, directors and staff to hear about how the plays are produced.

Who are the members of The Scene?

The Scene is designed for young professionals, approximately 25-39 years of age.

How do I join The Scene?

It’s easy! To join The Scene you just purchase a ticket to The Scene, which takes place on a designated night during the run of the show. CONTACT US TO PURCHASE TICKETS TO THIS EVENT NOW!

What do I get for being a member of The Scene?

Well, for starters, you get to see some great theatre for less than the cost of a tank of gas! And, if you've got a busy schedule, it's a guaranteed fully-planned, all-inclusive fantastic night out with friends. San Jose Repertory Theatre is the premiere theatre in the Bay Area, and our plays consistently have the best actors, directors, sets, and costumes of any theatre around. In addition to the plays, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about costumes, sets and props and visit areas not available to the general public. Scene members are also invited to San Jose hotspots for delectable edibles and libations, where you’ll get to mingle and network with other culture junkies. Here, members are able to meet the artists and get the behind-the-scenes scoop on our productions.

How do I make sure that I get to sit with my friends?

This is tricky, but it can be done. There are two ways to go about it:

1. Get together with your friends and purchase your tickets to The Scene all on the same form. This is the best way to ensure that everyone is together. If two couples would like to sit together, then purchase four tickets and The Scene staff will seat you all together.

2. If after you order a ticket to The Scene and a friend wants to join you, make sure that your friend writes on their order form that they would like to sit near you. All orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s possible that the seats around you may fill up before your friend's order comes in. If you are willing to change your seat to sit near your friends, please call The Scene hotline and the staff will do their best to accommodate you.

What happens if I can't make the night of The Scene event at the Rep?

It's not a problem. Simply call The Scene hotline at least 48 hours before your ticketed night and exchange your ticket to another night without the standard $12.00 exchange fee. The Scene hotline phone number is (408) 367-7297.

When you call you’ll need to decide right then your alternative night to attend. If the exchange involves an upgrade to a higher seating level, you will be charged the difference. If you cannot attend the show at all, pass your tickets along to friends—they’ll be very grateful—or donate your tickets back to San Jose Repertory Theatre in return for a charitable donation tax receipt. What if I want to purchase tickets to other plays in the season?

The Rep has a six play season, and you may want to purchase tickets to these additional events. Check out our season selection here or call the Box Office at (408) 367-7255.

What if I want to introduce a friend to The Scene?

It's easy! Because members of The Scene are often very well connected, they often want to introduce their friends to the Rep. Just call the box office and purchase an additional ticket to the night The Scene is occurring for that play, 408-367-7255.

How do I help spread the word about The Scene?

Tell your friends! Tell your co-workers! Tell your neighbors! Tell any other group that you may belong to! The Scene is a fun, social night out with some great friends and great theatre. Send your friends an email with a link to this site or give us their contact information.  We’re happy to send on information.

Why should I join The Scene rather than just buying tickets to plays?

The Scene is about meeting like-minded people who are also interested in experiencing theatre in a fun, social atmosphere. You’ll get to see how theatre is created by having an opportunity to visit the costume shop, backstage and other areas not available to the general public. You’ll mingle with the people who make the magic happen on the stage. Best of all, it is an all-inclusive night on the town with your friends.  Why not reward yourself up front and make sure you set aside a few nights for something you love?
